PHILIPPINE HISTORY

The course is an introductory course on history and culture of the Filipino people. It is designed to give the students basic knowledge about their country and culture. The course combines the chronological and topical approaches. Thus, the major historic periods are treated in sequential order. However, within each major historic period, the discussion will proceed according to topics. Rizal should be studied in the context of the broad sweep of Philippine history, particularly,
the late 19th century emergence of the Filipino nation. His two novels should be read in this light.
