ETHICS AND LAW OF THE PRESS

This course is designed to help students understand the different rules and regulations of the mass media. This will also give them an overview on the written laws of both foreign and local constitutions. It includes lessons on the limitation of the media, its ethical restrictions, and dilemmas.


INTERNATIONAL-INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATIONS
The course aims to help the learner analyze the variables and barriers in intercultural-international communication. The greater bulk of the course is devoted to the study of cultural differences and the link between culture and communication since it is through the influence of the culture that people learn to communicate.


PERFORMING ARTS
The subject aims to give the students both theoretical and practical orientations on the area of music and stage performances. Emphasis is laid on the basic elements of music as well as the basic principles of stage performance.


FUNDAMENTALS OF JOURNALISM
This course aims to make the students understand the theories/ practices in journalistic writing. This emphasizes on news writing, its essential elements, methods in gathering relevant data, organizing techniques and practical application of principles.


PUBLIC RELATION, PRINCIPLES & PRACTICE
This course provides an in-depth study in the field of public relations, communications, public opinion, international public relations, the role of PR in corporate organization and opinion research.


FILM AESTHETICS
This course allows the students to understand the historical background and technical elements of filmmaking. This also gives them adequate understanding regarding the purposes of filmmaking and at the same time encourages them to be intellectual viewers.


ADVERTISING PRINCIPLE AND PRACTICE
This gives an insight regarding the advertiser’s marketing and managerial operation, the nature and functions of the dvertising agency, the advertising budget requirements, and other services. The course involves the preparation of the advertising media plan as a campaign strategy, production offprint, radio and television ads and the preparation of advertising budget for the campaign.


RADIO AND TV PRODUCTION
This course will introduce the student to the fascinating field of radio and television production. The course is designed to provide the students with a balanced mix of theory and techniques, along with step-by-step instruction in hands-on production techniques.


MASS COMMUNICATION RESEARCH A & B
It is a study of communication research strategy and methodology, scientific process, bases for derivation and verification of hypotheses and basic methods of designing research in communication, with emphasis on the application of communication theories to various professional communication areas.


DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION
This course deals with the analytical survey of the communication media for development and development perspectives and issues.


PRACTICUM
This is a practical training that will expose students to the real world of media. It will train them how to work in radio, television, film, advertising agencies, public relation companies, and newspaper and magazine companies. The students are required to complete 300 hours. The first 150 hours should be in Advertising and Public Relations and the remaining 150 hours for Broadcasting and Print (Journalism).


INTRO TO COMMUNICATION THEORY
This course covers communication theories and models in different levels—interpersonal, intrapersonal, group, mass, organizational, cultural, and interactive. The course discusses these models and theories lengthily by including researches undertaken in the past. It also traces the development of communication through the changes in schools of thought and paradigm shifts.


FEATURE WRITING
The course is designed to train students to write feature stories effectively. The students will also be familiarized with the techniques/methods in writing feature articles. Emphasis is on learning the theories and their application in actual writing.


EDITORIAL WRITING
The course is designed to train students to write effective editorials. They will also be familiarized with the techniques/ methods in writing editorial articles.


SCRIPTWRITING
The course is designed to train students to write for TV and Film. They will also be familiarized with the techniques/methods in writing script for TV and cinema. Emphasis is on learning the theories and their application in actual writing.


MEDIA PLANNING & MANAGEMENT
The course is designed to train students in planning the steps that are essential for media planning and management. This will help them in determining the appropriate media strategies that will best carry the message and make it effective.
