Finally detonating the heavy bombers for the loudest win ever this NCAA season, STAGS silenced the leader with 52-47 ending yesterday’s hardcourt bout.

Dislodging the early leader JRU who now takes the same position with SSC-R in the magic four , STAGS winning points came from Moconocido’s surefire free throws enabling a three-point advantage against the bombers whose score was nailed to 47 during the last few minutes of the fourth quarter.

Gilbert Bulawan was pinned best player as he netted crucial points during the third quarter while marking great and well-coordinated moves with Viray and Pamboy Raymundo.

This is the second time STAGS have scourged the bombers. The first match sounded the buzzer with 57-54 final score in favor of STAGS.

San Sebastian drew strength in beanpole Jason Ballesteros in the stretch as it humbled Letran, 76-73, yesterday to turn the Final Four race a little more interesting in the 84th NCAA basketball tournament at the Astrodome.

The 6-foot-7 Ballesteros provided the defense the whole game and then went to his offense by scoring nine of his 11 points in the fourth quarter to give the Stags their sixth straight win and seventh overall in 11 outings.

“He loves to block shots, rebound and play defense. But he can score points like that if the opportunity presents itself,” said San Sebastian coach Jorge Gallent of his 22-year-old center, who finished with 14 rebounds and three blocks.
