ETHICS FOR THE FILIPINO IT PROFESSIONALS

Pre-requisite: None


This course aims to mold the professionalism of the students by integrating into them the ethics and values required of Filipino IT professional. It also covers relevant legal IT issues particularly in the E-Commerce law.


DATA COMPRESSION

This course discusses the various techniques and principles of data encapsulation, compression, security, and integrity. The subject also gives emphasis on data communication, error handling, and recovery.


ADVANCE SPECIAL TOPICS

Pre-requisite: CS 311


This course introduces a different approach to programming called EVENT-DRIVEN programming. It also includes the graphical interface revolution, event-oriented programming and phases of developing an application.


INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS AND WORD
3 units
Pre-requisite:


This course covers data processing concepts; electronic data processing elements: hardware, software and people ware; word processing fundamentals which include formatting text, copying and moving text; tab setting; inserting table and symbols; mail merge. It also covers Windows basics such as working with File Manager and Control Panel.


ELECTRONIC SPREADSHEETS
3 units
Pre-requisite: IT 101


IT 102 is a 3-hour lecture and laboratory per week on the underlying concept of electronic spreadsheet. Focus is given to problem solving with spreadsheet like entering of data and formulas with practices of navigation commands and some Excel for Windows exercises.


INTRODUCTION TO PROGRAMMING USING VISUAL BASIC

Pre-requisite: IT 102


This course is designed to introduce the student into the basic programming using flowcharting. This course is an introduction to fundamental problem solving techniques and programming logic design. It introduces the concepts of programming, using a visual programming tool such as Microsoft Visual Basic to introduce procedural/structured-programming concepts. The course is designed for the student and aspiring programmers who have no previous exposure to programming, and would like to be able to write their own Windows programs with limited computing background.


DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
3 units
Pre-requisite: IT 103


This course covers hierarchical storage allocation; advance sorting methods; input/output system architecture; logical file organization, mapping logical organization to physical storage; operating file, system interface; higher level languages data management facilities and database management.


SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS
3 units
Pre-requisite: None


The course discusses the three basic business application software
namely: word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation.


INTRODUCTION TO INTERNET AND E-COMMERCE
3 units
Pre-requisite: None


The course aims to give the students a clear understanding of the concepts and principles of Internet and Electronic Commerce. It also gives emphasis on the discussion of Internet Technologies such as the World Wide Web, web page design and development, and basic web scripting languages.


DATABASE MANAGEMENT

The course includes the basic concept program logic formulation, file organization and maintenance and introduction to database programming.


Data Filing and Visual Programming
Pre-requisite: IT 113
3 units


The course is a continuation of IT 113; emphasis is given to data filing, graphical user interface, and windows-based programming.


Introduction to Programming
Pre-requisite: None
3 units


This course is all about the study of programming concepts and techniques. Emphasis is given on the use of parameters in a subroutine, built-in and user defined functions, and the use arrays.
